Just north of the Golden Gate Bridge you can find yourself wandering and skating the ghostly remnants of an old military radar control station. According to Google it’s a 1.9 mile hike from the Fort Cronkhite parking lot with a 1053 foot / 321 meter elevation gain.
Bring water, food, and layers. There are restrooms with running water at the beach parking lot.
Muni bus 76X runs to and from the parking lot on Saturday and Sunday. It stops in downtown SF at Sutter St. and Sansome St. as well as the Golden Gate Bridge / Toll Plaza.
There are parts of the hike where one may be tempted to veer off. Be aware of poison oak. It’s abundant on this hike, particularly to the sides of trails and around the stairs.
From the top you can skate most of the way back down. The trail is paved and rough, but it’s rideable and slideable.
